Who Was Marcie?

Marcie was a happy, outgoing, beautiful 14 years old teenage girl. She took both dance and modeling classes while also being an honor roll student. She had dreams of one day attending Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The trajectory of Marcie's life changed on January 4, 2014, when Marcie was beaten and sexually assaulted by a convicted sex offender. At that moment, Marcie's young fragile life was shattered, and her innocence was forever taken. She became severely depressed and began to have panic attacks. She would often scrub herself until she was raw. Marcie attempted suicide twice unsuccessfully. Her third time trying resulted in her passing. As a mother, it had been beyond difficult for Elizabeth to see her daughter in so much pain. She was determined to do everything that she could to get Marcie the help that she needed. Marcie began counseling at the Laynie Foundation, and despite her ups and downs, it appeared that she was beginning to show signs of progress.

However, on July 20, 2015, Marcie came into the living room of the home she lived in with her mother. She asked her mother to draw her a bath. After she took the bath, she came into her mother's room and said, “I love you, Mommy.” She crawled into bed with her mother and laid on her chest. Elizabeth had no idea that Marcie's "I LOVE YOU, MOMMY" would be her darling daughter's last words. Marcie committed suicide that night.

The loss off a child is undoubtedly the #1 GREATEST PAIN that a mother or parent could ever experience in life and one that Elizabeth had ever had to endure.

Instead of continuing to grieve over her tragic loss, Elizabeth decided to turn her pain and suffering into a pursuit to Support Assist Vindicate Educate (S.A.V.E.) victims and families of victims and provide children with the tools to help prevent sexual violence and to teach them how not to live in silence.
